Meet the Founder:
Hi, I’m Rebecca Ann Paulsel, founder and owner of The Golden Leash Dog Walking and Pet Sitting LLC. I’m so glad you’re here.
The Golden Leash is a professional, relationship-driven pet care company proudly serving Greater Houston, Texas. We specialize in reliable dog walking, in-home pet sitting, pet transportation, medication administration, and pet wedding attendant services—designed specifically for busy pet parents who want dependable care they can trust. Our mission is simple: to provide exceptional, personalized pet care while building genuine trust and lasting relationships with every client and pet we serve. We believe pet care should feel seamless, stress-free, and held to a higher standard within the pet care industry.
My Story:
My passion for animals began at a young age and has only deepened over the years. I grew up surrounded by a wide variety of animals—dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, reptiles, and more—which shaped my deep respect and understanding of their unique needs.
At the age of 17, I had the opportunity to assist a family friend with whelping a litter of Golden Retriever puppies. That experience changed everything & my life. I brought home one of those puppies—Dakota—who quickly became my soul dog. She was loyal, loving, and full of personality. Although Dakota is no longer with us as she has passed on, she remains the inspiration behind The Golden Leash and continues to represent the heart of everything we do.
Today, my personal pet family includes Lola, my sweet (and sassy) Miniature Schnauzer, and Mango, a vibrant Pineapple Green Cheek Conure.
Experience & Credentials:
With over a decade of hands-on experience in the Houston pet care industry, I bring a well-rounded and professional background to every service we provide.
My experience includes:
- Volunteering with Greyhound Pets of America – Houston
- Working in dog daycare and boarding facilities
- Several years with a professional dog walking and pet sitting company
- Veterinary industry experience, including small animals and exotics
I earned my Certified Veterinary Assistant Level 1 certification through the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) and advanced into a Veterinary Technician role in a small animal practice. I am also certified in Pet First Aid and CPR, ensuring your pets are always in capable, knowledgeable hands.
Beyond Pet Care:
I’m committed to continuous education in animal care, business growth, and providing the highest level of service to my clients. Outside of work, I’m passionate about supporting causes such as domestic abuse awareness, suicide prevention, and autism awareness. When I’m not caring for pets, you’ll likely find me enjoying a good podcast, audiobook, listening to music, or relaxing with an iced latte or tea at one of my favorite Houston area coffee spots.

🌈 A tribute to Dakota 🌈
This is our why story:
It is with deep pain and profound sadness that I share, my sweet Dakota passed away on Thursday, August 21st, 2025 at 12 and a half years old. In honor of her life, here is our why story and how The Golden Leash came to be:
In December of 2012, I had the immense privilege of helping a dear family friend whelp a litter of 10 Golden Retriever puppies, one of which was Dakota! Throughout the years Dakota was a constant companion in my life, helping me to navigate many different things and at times very hard life events. Dakota was always there by my side, never judged, provided unconditional love and had such a peaceful, calming presence about her.
Life took a bit of an unexpected and emotional turn in 2021 when I found myself in a domestically abusive relationship. Not only was I physically abused, but so was Dakota. After getting out and leaving the abusive relationship safely, I spent some time healing and continuing to lightly do dog walking and pet sitting as it brought me the most joy and peace. In 2022 while continuing to heal from the abuse, I poured myself into countless hours researching, laying the foundation and building The Golden Leash Dog Walking and Pet Sitting LLC inspired by Dakota and her unconditional love, along with my love of helping others both humans and animals. In September of 2023 The Golden Leash officially came to life. Due to Dakota’s unwavering & unconditional love, I am very passionate about raising awareness for domestic abuse, suicide prevention, and autism awareness, as she truly showed me what true love and acceptance really are.
Now as Dakota has passed over the rainbow bridge, my sweet mother noted the logo now represents Dakota on the other side of it, with the light pastel colors surrounding her. Dakota’s love & legacy will forever live on with The Golden Leash, and be the guiding light & principle of everything we do going forward!
